Back in 2013 we asked some professional painters for quotes to paint our two-story house (front wood siding and front / back eaves only). Several contractors walked away and some quoted prices around $8,000. That's way beyond our budget, so I went with plan B (DiY job).

Since I'm a working guy I had to split this DiY project into two phases. In Nov 2013 the upper raked roof section was painted. Then late 2016 the project was restarted and continued for several months. Yes, months.

The job required industrial scaffolding along with 24' and 32' ladders. To make it even more challenging, bad weather was a persistent issue.

These photos show how the project played out; Spoiler alert, record winter/spring rain and summer heat turned this into the project from hell. Not to mention the challenges caused by our house's unusual height. I have to admit that the professional painters that walked away from this job did the right thing.
